What is Spirit?
When you hear the word "spirit," what does it make you
think of? Religion? Ghosts? Foolishness? Try to clear
your mind of all that and try to think of "spirit" in a
new way. In reality, spirit is simply an existence in another
form and dimension. Remember our Star
Trek analogy in the beginning? We seem to readily accept the
idea of other life forms existing in other dimensions or out in
space somewhere, yet when the very same elements are brought up
but associated with religion or "God," then there is a
closed-mindedness that clouds the mind and prevents the reality
of it from being accepted.
It's not difficult to figure out who is responsible for
this occurrence, especially when you put all the pieces together.
Satan has been attacking the truth from the beginning. He has
substituted his own form of religion, or he has made the religion
that the world accepts seem completely powerless, empty, etc. How
many of us are turned off by any reference to "spirit", "being
saved," or "Jesus," or "salvation?"
Satan has done a good job of allowing the form of
religion to exist, but watering down the truth into a
"shell" that many good intentioned people have tried in
vain for centuries to convince others of.
Think of all the missionaries, and religious workers from
countless denominations who have been striving to "save the
world," yet, when you add up all the facts and figures, you
will have to admit that something is seriously wrong if the work
of the living God, the very creator of all that exists, has
resulted in what we have in the world today. God is obviously
less powerful than Satan and evil, if we accept traditional
religious views. How else could you explain the apparent lack of
respect for God or His laws?
What is the missing element? GOD'S SPIRIT. Let's look
at what the Bible DOES say about "spirit."
John 4:24 "God [is] Spirit, and those who worship Him
must worship in spirit and truth."
Remember Christ's warning about "vain
worship and false religion?"
Mt. 15:8 "This people draws near to me with their mouth,
and honors me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. :9
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the
commandments of men."
That is, people can actually be trying to
worship the true God, but are doing it uselessly and not in spirit or truth.
Philippians 3:3 "For we are the circumcision, who
worship God in the Spirit . . ."
POINT: God exists in another
form, one which is outside the 5 senses and beyond the physical
creation. He IS spirit. That is His nature and makeup. That is
how He exists. The only way mankind can relate to spirit, is
THROUGH spirit. Remember, mankind is physical, HOWEVER, there
is a spiritual component IN man
(not to be confused with the false concept of man "having" a
soul)
With this background, let's take a deeper look into
exactly what the "Holy Spirit" really is, and is NOT.
The traditional view is that the Holy Spirit is another separate
aspect of God. It is taught that God exists as three distance
"persons" and are really one. No one can explain this
because it isn't something the Bible teaches. It is accepted
on faith and that it is something "which can't be
understood." Let's find out.
Luke 24:49 "Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon
you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued
with power from on high."
Micah 3:8 "But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of
the LORD, And of justice and might, To declare to Jacob his
transgression And to Israel his sin."
Ephesians 3:7 "...of which I became a minister according
to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective
working of His power."
2 Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of
fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
2 Corinthians 4:7 "But we have this treasure in earthen
vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not
of us."
Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and
let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for
the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit."
Zechariah 4:6 "So he answered and said to me: "This
[is] the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by
power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts."
POINT: As the above scriptures show, the Holy Spirit
is the actual power that comes from God's being. It is a
reflection of His mind and is how he actually created the
universe. It is how God relates to mankind, molding and shaping
OUR minds as we allow it and agree to it. We often look at the
Bible as either a meaningless collection of ideas mankind has
dreamt up, or as simply a collection of nice sayings, and good
advice on how to live. However, we severely underestimate exactly
what the above scriptures really mean. The word of God, the
Bible, is actually the mind of God in written form. It is a
reflection of His spirit and is a powerful tool when combined
with His spirit. It isn't magic or neat tricks. Supernatural
events don't occur on a daily basis. This is a thing of the
MIND, which is the only thing which is ultimately important to
God.
God's spirit is a very real power, and without it, we
have no SPIRITUAL VISION, and have a blindness just as real as if
we had no eyes in our head. If someone is blind, they CAN'T
SEE what is there in front of them. Regardless of what others try
to tell then, the very fact that they are blind limits them to
the other senses they have to discern reality. It is the same way
spiritually speaking. without the Spirit of God, mankind
CAN'T understand or perceive spiritual truth and can't
have a relationship with God
The Trinity Doctrine is a belief system which supports the idea that the Holy Spirit is a "person" in the Godhead, but where in the world did the idea of "the Trinity"
come from? One of the biggest "proof" scriptures many
use to validate the trinity doctrine is the following:
1 John 5:7-8 "For there are three that bear witness in
heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these
three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth:
the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as
one."
The above scripture is a blatant misinterpretation as any
honest biblical scholar can testify, and which YOU can verify by
obtaining an interlinear translation and view the greek-to-english
yourself. The original scriptures DID
NOT have the above wording. The following is the correct wording.
The above was ADDED by transcribers in later manuscripts to try to
validate biblically the doctrine of the trinity:
1 John 5:7-8 For there are three that bear witness in heaven:
the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as
one.
As you can see, there was a lot of liberty taken to try to
introduce the trinity doctrine.
Further study you can do regards
the acknowledgments by the writers throughout the New Testament,
to God the Father and Christ the Son, BUT NO HOLY SPIRIT. Throughout
the New Testament, there are 17
greetings from "God and Jesus Christ," yet not ONE from
the Holy Spirit. The scriptures which use the term "He" is merely a
convenient grammatical tool. The Holy Spirit is used in several
forms of gender, he and it, masculine and neuter.
Notice more evidence...
Acts 7:56 "and said, "Look! I (Stephen) see the
heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of
God!"
1 Corinthians 11:3 "But I want you to know that the head
of every man is Christ, the head of woman [is] man, and the head
of Christ [is] God."
1 Timothy 2:5 :For [there is] one God and one Mediator
between God and men, [the] Man Christ Jesus,"
In the above scriptures, there is NO mention of the Holy
Spirit as being a part of the God Head. If it were a person of
the Godhead, you would think there would be mention of it
here.
Matthew 1:20 "But while he thought about these things,
behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying,
"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary
your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy
Spirit."
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, "[The]
Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the
Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One
who is to be born will be called the Son of God."
You will notice that even though the Holy Spirit is
responsible for the birth of Christ, NOWHERE does Christ call the
Holy Spirit "Father." Also, throughout Christ's
prayer to the Father in John 17, you will see that there is not
one word about the Holy Spirit being included. Don't you
think that if God's Spirit were a separate "person" of the
Godhead that God would have made it clear here?
So why do you think the trinity idea is even around? Please
see the trinity page for detailed
information as to the impact of this false doctrine.
We have to remember who is the author of the world's
religions. Satan hates the idea of mankind's relationship
with God. God stated that He was creating man in His image and
likeness. In other words, God is reproducing Himself, HIS KIND.
By focusing on the trinity as three distinct persons in ONE God,
you can't understand the idea, or couldn't even entertain
the idea of God reproducing Himself. The trinity locks the God
"family" into totaling only three. Satan does not want
mankind to even imagine that they have the destiny of being in
the literal family of God and a being LIKE God.
Does that sound like blasphemy or a completely crazy notion?
Go back over the material about salvation
, false religion and
heaven and hell, and you will see that this is in fact exactly what God
is doing on this earth. This knowledge opens up an incredible
future that Star Trek and other science fictions only hint at. If
we readily accept ideas of other beings "planting" us
here on earth, or the science fiction stories about other worlds
and other life, why is it so difficult to accept the truth? There
ARE other beings who DID "plant" us here on earth, and
who ARE developing their "race" in and through US. That
"race" is the God Family.
Don't take my word for it, prove it to yourself. Continue
on in your studies. Learn about who and what
Jesus Christ was and
is NOW. Learn how WE are destined to be Conformed to Christ's very image and to INHERIT ALL THINGS with
Christ. The more you begin to realize the truth, the more awesome
it will all seem. DON'T GIVE UP NOW!
A Power in us: What is Power? Where does the world focus with its power? What should real power be and how should it be displayed?
