Satan and his Demons: Real or Myth?

Satan has long been held out to be involved in a battle with God for the souls of men. He has provoked fear in some, and laughter in others. What is the truth about Satan and the demons? Does he really exist? Is he in a battle with God?

Have you ever wondered where the world originally got its ideas for "religion"? You can see a common thread run throughout most religions in the world. That of a super being, called by many different names, and "evil" that is somehow in a battle with this superbeing. It had to come from somewhere, and that source is what the Bible describes in detail.

There are many ideas and beliefs about Satan and the demons, so how do we dig out the truth on this subject? Is it something we should be able to prove simply and finally in a few moments? If not, why not? If these beings don't exist, why has the concept persisted for so long? If they do exist, how do we know, and what do we base this belief on?

The problem is, these evil beings are right here on this earth WITH us, and they have no desire for the truth of their existence to be commonly believed, or acted upon. SOUND CRAZY AND IMPOSSIBLE? Of course, it is MEANT TO SOUND RIDICULOUS. You see, these beings DON'T WANT YOU TO REALIZE WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON OR WHAT THE HUMAN DESTINY CAN BE, BECAUSE THEY ARE JEALOUS AND ARE ATTEMPTING TO DO ALL THEY CAN TO PREVENT HUMANITY FROM ACHIEVING THE RIGHT STATE OF MIND.

The subject of Satan and his demons has been the brunt of many jokes and cartoons over the years, but very little of the truth is understood about who he was, is now, and what his destiny is. We will now take a look at his story and why mankind DOESN'T understand him or his power.

We need to begin at the beginning so we can better understand what is happening now on this earth.

Ezekiel 28:1-19; In this set of scriptures, the origin of an angelic being (incorrectly named Lucifer) is described who was perfect in his beginning. This being freely decided to go his own way, contrary to the truth of life and happiness.

Isaiah 14:12-14 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] you are cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations! :13 For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars (angels) of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: :14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like (the same as) the most High."

POINT: Satan, whose name was called Heylel actually grew so mentally unstable that he thought he could take over the power of the greatest being in the universe. This attempt was easily stopped, and Satan was cast back down to this earth.

Contrary to popular belief, God IS NOT in some kind of contest for the souls of mankind. Satan does not have any ability to FORCE mankind to do anything and is not in a contest with God. The following scriptures show this:

  • In Job 1:6-2:10 we can plainly see that God has complete control over Satan's doings, and Satan CAN'T go beyond what God himself allows. Specifically, let's look at the precise scriptures that make this plain.

  • Job 1:9-12 "So Satan answered the LORD and said, Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!"

  • :12 "And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has [is] in your power; only do not lay a hand on his [person.] So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD."
  • Job 2:4-6 "So Satan answered the LORD and said, Skin for skin! yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. 5 But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!"

  • :6 "And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he [is] in your hand, but spare his life."

Satan can only do what God allows, and that includes ALL that takes place on this earth. As bad as it all is, there is a plan that you need to understand about WHY God allows the sorrows and suffering to occur. It is the focal point of man's destiny.

Let's look at a few other scriptures that show us that Satan doesn't have the power some might think:

Luke 10:18 "And he (Christ) said to them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."

POINT: Satan was cast out of heaven, forced out by other angels loyal to God.

Revelation 12:3-4 "And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. :4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth. . .

POINT: Over time, Satan's rebellion spread to 1/3rd of the angelic population, and caused them to be cast out with Satan back to earth from where the rebellion originated.

Ephesians 2:2 "in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the POWER OF THE AIR, (How Satan influences mankind - see Spirit in Man) the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience."

Ephesians 6:12 "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places.]"

2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 "[Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, :10 And with all ;deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved."

Hebrews 2:14 "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;"

John 12:31 "Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the ruler of this world (Satan) be cast out."

POINT:If God is in a battle with Satan, how is it that suddenly Satan is cast out and his works brought to nothing? Why doesn't God do that right now and save us all from the evils in the world?

John 16:11 ". . .of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged."

1 John 3:8 "He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil."

POINT: Satan is the god of this world, and has power to influence any aspect of man's doings on this earth, (for a purpose)... influence of who rules on this earth in government positions, (Subject to God's purpose - Daniel 2:21 & Luke 4:6), to individuals. Yet most people do not believe he exists, exactly what Satan wants to maintain.

Satan's days are numbered. Realize that God, in many places in the bible, makes it plain that He has ultimate control over Satan. Satan's first casting out as described in previous scriptures, wasn't his last.

Revelation 12:7-10 "And war broke out in heaven (again): Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, :8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. :9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

Revelation 20:2-3 "He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is [the] Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; :3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while."

Revelation 20:7-10 "Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison :8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number [is] as the sand of the sea. :9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them (the nations/people). :10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet [were cast.] And they (Satan and his demons) will be tormented day and night forever and ever." (An age or period of time)

POINT: Satan ultimately loses, but his involvement in the affairs of mankind will help to bring mankind to the goal of living forever. You see, the world is a workshop and God allows all that occurs because man has to be allowed to go his own way and do his own thing, thereby reaping what he sows. There has to be an example of mankind’s way without God, and this world is it!

We can look at one more area of proof that Satan and his demons are subject to God's power and will:

Matthew 8:31 "So the demons besought him, saying, If you cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine."

Mark 5:12 "And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. 13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea."

POINT: Again, I ask, IF there is a battle between God and Satan for men's "souls," how can there be this kind of power and control over Satan and his demons, yet there still be a "battle" going on NOW?

Satan's destiny!

There is significant evidence to suggest that, just as the fate of human rebellion against God is to be destroyed in the lake of fire, so, too, is Satan and the demons end to come in the same way...

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sin = death, not forever living in torment and agony

Ezek 28:18 you hast defiled your sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of your traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of you, it shall devour you, and I will bring you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold you. :19 All they that know you among the people shall be astonished at you: you shalt be a terror, and never shalt you be any more.

Matt 8:28 "When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. 29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?"

Mark 1:23 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24 saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are - the Holy One of God!"

Why would these demons make such statements regarding their fate?

Matt 25:41 Then shall he say also to them on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

The lake of fire was actually prepared, designed for, Satan and his evil angels. It isn't hard to realize that, along with those humans who rebelled against God's truth and willingly rejected Him, Satan and his angels will also be destroyed in this fire. What God creates, He can destroy!

(As a side note, Satan and the demons are spirit beings, yes, but this lake of fire which is an actual burning element, apparently will destroy even this type of spirit. This lends even more credence to the involvement by these beings in human affairs, via UFO's, Aliens, The Bible, & Humanity.)

This is an incredible story, one which Satan himself only partially comprehends. Satan is doomed to fail at his plan to thwart God's plan to bring mankind into his own family. (See Saved!)

This should suffice in providing enough information about the subject of Satan and his influence over the mind of mankind. Remember, Satan is not physical so we can't discern any aspect of his mind without some help from another power source.
