Miracles: Fact or Fiction?

If we understand what God is, His nature and make up which is that of spirit, we will see how He can interact within the physical world through what we call miracles.

Genesis 1:2 "The earth (became) without form, and void; and darkness [was] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters."

Psalm 8:3 "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,"

Psalm 19:1 "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork."

Psalm 104:30 "You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth."

Hebrews 1:3 ". . .and upholding all things by the word of His power. . ."

Psalm 139:7 "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?"

Job 42:2 "I know that you can do every [thing], and [that] no thought can be withheld from You."

POINT: Since God is spirit, the only thing He could "create" anything out of IS His spirit. All things that exist came from God. BUT HOW? If you continue to think "non-religious," and more along the lines of reality, you will readily see how spirit and matter are connected.

When we hear about the "miracles" described in the Bible, we are viewing them in light of our limited understanding. Our 5 senses are not aware of much of the reality of even the PHYSICAL world around us. We do not notice the countless "particles" that are moving through us every second. We don't see ultraviolet light. We can't hear most of the sound spectrum. Science has a vast amount of information yet to learn just about the physical universe. So why do we have such a hard time accepting that which we can't see or fully understand? Science does it all the time.

In the beginning, all that existed was the power and mind we call "God." (The subject of who and what "God" is can be studied on the Page about Christ!) With spirit being the reality of all existence and the very nature of God, the idea of physical matter becomes a little more understandable.

Science knows that matter consists of ever smaller "building blocks." If you know anything about Quantum Mechanics, you will already know that science is reaching the actual threshold where matter is "ordered" and where it suddenly becomes "chaotic" and unpredictable. IN other words, there is a place where God's power and spirit becomes evident within the physical created universe. When God set about to "create" the universe and all matter in it, it was simple for God. He "simply" ORDERED His spirit to take the form which He designed.

In other words, MATTER, AT IT'S MOST BASIC LEVEL OF EXISTENCE, IS COMPOSED OF SPIRIT. God who exists in another "realm" in another form, could actually design and order His spirit to take the form of matter. As the scriptures indicate, it is God's spirit which "UPHOLDS" the entire universe, including all of the laws of physics that exist. It is physics which give order to the universe, and provides a place where man can function with some degree of order.

God designed and created this "physical" universe for the express purpose of completing His plan. This physical existence, which WE call life, ISN'T REALLY LIFE AS REALITY DEFINES LIFE. We exist as flesh and blood, nothing more. The WHOLE PURPOSE FOR OUR BEING ALIVE IS TO LEARN HOW TO THINK LIKE GOD, AND THEN TO BE CHANGED INTO THE VERY NATURE OF GOD, WHICH IS SPIRIT!

So, finally, we can discuss the subject of "miracles." Remembering that all matter is "ordered" spirit, you should be readily able to understand HOW God can interact within the physical universe, and RE-ORDER anything He desires. Christ "healed" a lot of diseases, and even raised people from the dead. He also made a withered arm whole again, and ALL of this seems quite incredible to us. It is completely beyond our ability to do.

For God to interact in our world, all He has to do is to intervene, supersede, re-order. . . or do any other similar thing that describes His ability to re-structure a withered arm, walk on water, raise the dead, OR resurrect others to life again. Since all matter originates from God, He can quite easily not only interact with it, he can also "know" and be aware of our very thoughts. Remember, man has a spirit within him which gives him consciousness and self awareness, and separates him from animal life and mind. THAT spirit, and ALL it contains in the way of memories and character is readily known by God BECAUSE it is spirit, so "reading" our thoughts or knowing our mind and heart isn't difficult for Him.

Past miracles and future miracles, if viewed from this perspective, will become better understood, even though they will be just as remarkable and awesome. The God who is misunderstood and limited by most of the world is far beyond anything the world believes now. His plan involves ALL of mankind, regardless of color or ethnic origin. To become spirit is the greatest destiny any one of us could hope for. To live forever in the right state of mind and character pales to insignificance anything this earthly physical life could ever offer.
